August 8th was a fun evening (or shall I say ‘Night’) painting in the dark with Elly Evangelista & Debra Kroger. Ok, so it wasn’t completely dark. It took some time to find a location the three of us could all be inspired by. The location we found had a park on one corner and a church on another. The park corner also had a statue that was lit from below. Sconces beside each door lit up the front of the church, and a low light within the sanctuary shined thru stain glass windows displaying an array of bright colors.
The three of us each chose something different to paint, though we all were at the same corner. Elly picked a scene with no light at all; a dark blue house with white trim. I painted the church. Debra sat in front of the statue and drew what looked like an ominous figure wearing a black cloak.
What comes in handy when painting at night? There is no getting around the need for a portable light. But, a light with a dimmer makes it easier for the eyes to see values. Coffee helped a little at 11:30pm. Though the excitement of interpreting things in the night alone can keep your adrenaline running – coffee doesn’t hurt. Lastly, good company… there is nothing better than solving problems with others close by to help you thru it.
